Wells creates monsters that have human ancestors. "A small white, moving creature, with large bright eyes which regarded me steadfastly as it retreated. It made me shudder. It was so like a human spider!" (Wells, 59)

Morlocks have evolved from workers who work in factories. Factories are often dark and many workers have to do a night shift. These conditions became a part of their life as they evolve into Morlocks.

CommentWorkers often had a hard time to buy food for their family as they struggled mightily to stay alive. As they evolved to Morlocks, at one point in time they became cannibalistic as they were limited with food.

The Morlocks are workers who have evolved from facing harsh conditions as a part of their everyday life. They had to work in poorly lit factories and struggled to stay alive because it was hard for them to buy food.
The Morlocks attempt to eat the Time Traveller as he nearly escapes
